What is Jehovah-Jireh Ministries?

Jehovah-Jireh Ministries of West Michigan (JJMoWM) is a tangible expression of God's love and provision. Located in Hudsonville, MI., we currently provide free food and clothing, as well as Christian love and encouragement, to approximately 225 families each week.

Who is Jehovah-Jireh Ministries?

Jehovah-Jireh is the English transliteration of one of the Hebrew names of God. Jehovah-Jireh means "the Lord will provide", and God has used this ministry to prove himself true to His name time and time again.

To Whom Do We Minister?

Some are dealing with unemployment, others with unexpected expenses. Some have a long-term financial commitment such as Christian Education. Others are single parents, or are disabled. Many we will never meet personally, because they are being blessed by people who come to JJM with the intention of extending God's hand beyond our reach.

Geographically, most of those we serve live in southern Ottawa and northern Allegan counties.

In April of 1996, Sharon Herrema was contacted by Mel Trotter Ministries to see if she could find families who might be able to use any part of several skids of thawing frozen broccoli. Out of this event, a family ministry was born.

From the very beginning, we knew that God wanted the food to be given freely, generously, in His name, and for His glory. As people who came for food took hold of this vision, God used them to extend (and expand) the ministry, even as He increased the supply of food.

In the fall of 1998, the “Herrema” food ministry became Jehovah-Jireh Ministries, and came under the guidance and protection of Living Word Assembly of God Church. Then, in March of '99 the ministry moved out of the Herrema's house..

In January of 2001, Jehovah-Jireh Food Ministries became an independent, non-profit corporation, and in the fall of 2003 the ministry moved to a larger location in Forest Grove.

It was after this move that we decided to start distributing clothing and household items. We that change, we also saw need to change our name, so we became Jehovah Jireh Ministries of West Michigan.

By the end of 2014, circumstances at the Forest Grove site became such that we knew we had to  find another location.

We signed a lease in March of 2015 at 4055 Van Buren in Hudsonville. The space required much work to get it ready, but with the help of many wonderful volunteers, we began operating in November of the same year..

With this larger facility, and the help of gracious neighbors, we have been able to handle a larger volume and variety of both food and non-food items, and have been able to more effectively serve those who come for help.

The ministry is overseen by a board of directors committed to God's vision for this ministry. Most of the 100+ volunteers needed to operate this ministry come from among those who are being helped through the ministry. This gives them the opportunity to know the blessing of giving as well as the blessing of receiving from God.

As we have become established in the community, we have also enjoyed the increased involvement of area churches, businesses, and other Christian ministries.
